Here Are The Items You Should Move Yourself

Home » Here Are The Items You Should Move Yourself

At Fairprice Movers, we are full service movers, which means we can move pretty much any household or office item. There are exceptions, though. In fact, there are some items that you should never have a mover move.

Flammable, Corrosive, Explosive Items

Nearly every household has some hazardous items, which can include paint cans, cleaning chemicals, medications, propane tanks, car batteries, etc. Movers are prohibited from moving them. If you’re looking to get rid of them, contact your local trash company or landfill. Some landfills will not take hazardous waste, but they might be able to refer you to someone who can.

Important Documents

Movers should never move important documents such as home deeds, leases, car titles, birth certificates, and passports. Put them in a safe portable file and move them in your car. It’s also a good idea to move your photo albums yourself, or at least digitize your photos before the move.

Jewelry

Movers can move your costume jewelry, but if you have valuable jewelry, move it yourself. Movers are only liable for $.60 per pound per article. Even the largest diamond ring will barely tip the scale. The same applies to other small but valuable items.

Computers

This probably doesn’t need to be said, but keep your laptops and tablets with you. We can move your desktop computers, but make sure you backup the hard drive, and that it’s password secure. Also, if you have the original box, please use it.

And Maybe…Art

Fairprice Movers is highly experienced at moving art, but if you’re on a budget, by all means, move your art yourself. We can provide you with all the packing materials you need, or if you are moving a short distance, wrap your artwork in blankets and place everything securely in your car, back to back.
