ToggleThe moving industry is among the most seasonal industries out there. The vast majority of people who move during the year move when school is out, and when the weather is most likely to cooperate. In other words, far more people move during the summer than during the winter.
The days are short and the weather cold. Summer is still months away, but if you are planning to move this summer, you should start now to make everything a lot less stressful when the time comes.
Clear Clutter
Take an hour or so every weekend to clear out what you don’t want. Don’t limit it to clothes you don’t wear and books you have already read. You should also go through those boxes that have been stored in your garage for years. If you haven’t used items in a couple of years, the odds are, you never will. You might as well save money by getting rid of them now.
Have a Yard Sale
You might be able to make a few extra bucks by selling everything you want to get rid of. If you only have a few items, sell them on sites like Facebook Marketplace or Next-door. You can also try a consignment store, but note that they will take a portion of the revenue.
Donate
Donate anything you don’t sell to thrift stores. You should even get a tax deduction.
Pack
It’s never too early to start packing. Box up old toys, books you probably won’t read before the move, and even photos. While your family photos help make your house a home, potential buyers want to envision their own families in the home, not yours.
Store
Fairprice Movers is happy to help you make room in your home, and give you a step up on the move, by storing items for as long as you need us to. Unlike with self-storage units, we’ll do all the work, and you only pay for the space you use.
Contact Movers
It may seem early to book your move; after all, you don’t even have a moving date. It’s not too early to start narrowing down your search for a mover, though. Look at reviews, call a few, and even set up some onsite estimates.
