If there’s a single city that represents nearly everything we love about the Bay Area, it has to be Redwood City. Redwood City is a small(ish) city, with a population of about 85,000 people, but it’s a bustling metropolis and it’s a great place to play, both night and day.
Redwood City, located on the San Francisco Bay Peninsula and in Silicon Valley, is pretty much right in the middle between San Francisco and San Jose. Despite its relatively small size, Redwood City is internationally known as the home to several tech companies, including Oracle, Electronic Arts, Evernote, Box, and Informatica. Tech is far from the only industry in Redwood City, though. The Port of Redwood City is the Bay’s only deepwater port south of San Francisco.
Outdoorsy types love that Redwood City is minutes to both the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. If you prefer indoor recreation, Redwood City’s downtown area is full of activities, including world class dining and performing arts. San Francisco is only about 25 miles away.
Celebrate the Fourth of July with Redwood City’s famous Independence Day Parade. The parade has gone on every year since 1939, and is billed as the largest Independence Day parade in California, west of the Mississippi, or depending who you ask, perhaps even the largest in the United States. None of those claims have been recently verified, but suffice it to say, Redwood City’s Independence Day Parade is worth seeing.
