How To Move Out Of Your College Dorm Room

The end of the school year is coming up. Whether you’re graduating, or just leaving campus for the summer, it’s time to prepare yourself for moving out of the dorm. The problem, though, is that preparing for the move happens at the same time as finals. Ugh! With these simple steps, though, moving prep can be a breeze:

Divide Up Your Possessions

By the end of the school year, you and your roommate might forget what belongs to whom. Now is the time to figure it out. If you occasionally grab some clothing from your roommate’s closet, it’s time to give them back. If you bought anything together, the person who keeps it should pay half, with some depreciation, to the other, unless, of course, you will be rooming together next year.

Pack A Box A Day

Even during finals, you can find five or 10 minutes to pack a single box. It won’t take long before you’re done.

Ship Boxes Off

You don’t need your winter clothes. You don’t need a lot of stuff you have in your room, at least not before the semester ends. Ship some boxes off via the post office. Pro tip: Shipping books, book rate, at the Post Office saves you a lot of money.

Clean

It shouldn’t take long to clean the room, but give it a good scrub from the floor and up the walls. If you put holes in the walls, cover them with sparkle.

Enlist Help

You can hire a mover, or you can enlist the help of some of your friends. Young, strong backs should be able to handle the minimal amount of furniture you have.
